Jesus before Pilate

Passover 2021-from sundown on March 27, 2021, to the sundown on April 4, 2021.

John 18:28-40

No charges found in Jesus.

Only the Romans have the right to execute vs 31).

Roman governor-Pilate interrogated Jesus; Jesus dignified reply.

Pilate questions:

Are you the king of the Jews? (vs 33, NIV)

What is it you have done?

What is truth? (vs 38)

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world…..my servants would fight…my kingdom is from another place.” (vs 36).

Jesus confirmed he is the king of another kingdom-kingdom of truth.

Jesus disclosed his mission of coming to earth.

“You are a king, then!”, said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this I came into this world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” (vs 37, NIV)

2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Anyone in Christ, new creation; the old has gone-reconciled to God(vs 17-21).

God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (vs 21, NIV).

John 18:28-40
[28]Early in the morning Jesus was taken from Caiaphas’ house to the governor’s palace. The Jewish authorities did not go inside the palace, for they wanted to keep themselves ritually clean, in order to be able to eat the Passover meal.
[29]So Pilate went outside to them and asked, “What do you accuse this man of?”
[30]Their answer was, “We would not have brought him to you if he had not committed a crime.”
[31]Pilate said to them, “Then you yourselves take him and try him according to your own law.”They replied, “We are not allowed to put anyone to death.”
[32](This happened in order to make the words of Jesus come true, the words he used when he indicated the kind of death he would die.)
[33]Pilate went back into the palace and called Jesus. “Are you the King of the Jews?” he asked him.
[34]Jesus answered, “Does this question come from you or have others told you about me?”
[35]Pilate replied, “Do you think I am a Jew? It was your own people and the chief priests who handed you over to me. What have you done?”
[36]Jesus said, “My kingdom does not belong to this world; if my kingdom belonged to this world, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish authorities. No, my kingdom does not belong here!”
[37]So Pilate asked him, “Are you a king, then?”Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. I was born and came into the world for this one purpose, to speak about the truth. Whoever belongs to the truth listens to me.”
[38]“And what is truth?” Pilate asked.
[39]But according to the custom you have, I always set free a prisoner for you during the Passover. Do you want me to set free for you the King of the Jews?”
[40]They answered him with a shout, “No, not him! We want Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a bandit.)

2 Corinthians 5:17-21
[17]Anyone who is joined to Christ is a new being; the old is gone, the new has come.
[18]All this is done by God, who through Christ changed us from enemies into his friends and gave us the task of making others his friends also.
[19]Our message is that God was making the whole human race his friends through Christ. God did not keep an account of their sins, and he has given us the message which tells how he makes them his friends.
[20]Here we are, then, speaking for Christ, as though God himself were making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: let God change you from enemies into his friends!
[21]Christ was without sin, but for our sake God made him share our sin in order that in union with him we might share the righteousness of God.
