Map:

King of Israel: Hoshea, sin of Elah, King of Judah: Hezekiah, son of Ahaz-twenty-five years began to reign; reign 29 years (BC 716-687). Manasseh his son succeeded him as king Ch 20:21.

King of Assyria: Shalmaneser, Sennacherib (BC 702).

King of Egypt: Tirhakah, the Cushite.

Kingvof Babylon: Merodach-Baladan Chap 20:12.

Hezekiah-did what is right in the eyes of God: destroyed high places, Asherah poles, bronze snake Moses had made, trusted God, kept God’s commands vs 3-6; the LORD was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook vs 7.

Imp events: King Hezekiah’s fourth year…Shalmanser king of Assyria marched against Samaria and laid seige to it At the end of three years the Assyrians took it vs 9-10;..king of Assyria deported Israel….God allows this to punish Israel for violation of his convenant.

…fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them. Chapter 18:13..; dialoque bwtween Hezekiah’s men and the commander of king of Assyria-vs 17-37…the commander told the people not to trust Hezekiah who trusts in God vs 30…mocks God and other gods will not be able to deliver them from the great army of Assyria-vs 30-35; boasting the greatness of Assyria. Hezekiah’s prayer for deliverance Chapter 19:14-19…you alone, O LORD, are God.

Sennacherib’s fall for insulting God Chapter 19:20-37-killed by his sons. Esarhaddon his son succeeded him as king. Hezekiah’s illness, his prayer for healing ch 20:2-3. God’s mercy on him and healing-extend his life by fifteen more years and the sign-the shadow to go back the ten steps vs 4-11.

Hezekiah’s show off his treasures to the envoys from Babylon Chap 20:13-14. Isaiah’s prophecy-all the treasures and some of Hezekiah’s descendants will be taken away to Babylon Chap 20:14-19. Why?

Accomplishments: Obey and trust God; destroy idols worshipping; rebelled against the king of Assyria and did not serve him vs 7;…defeated the Philistines, as far as Gaza amd its territory. Made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city 2 Kings 20:20.

Failures: vs 14, admission to the king of Assyria at Lachish that he has done wrong…gave silver and gold from the temple of the LORD to the king of Assyria why? to appease him instead of trusting God for deliverance. Is this a temporary lack of trust in God by Hezekiah for fear of the army of Assyria invaing Judah next. Show off his treasures to the envoys from Babylon vs 12-13.
