Testimonies about Jesus
John 5:31-47
Jesus gave testimony about himself and also referred to Moses who testifed about him.
Moses, the prophet who led the Israelites out of Egypt, never mentioned Jesus by name. However, his writings in the Old Testament contain prophecies and symbolism that Christians believe foreshadow Jesus as the Messiah.

Prophecies in Deuteronomy
– Deuteronomy 18:15-19 predicts the coming of a prophet “like me” who will speak God’s words. Christians see this as a reference to Jesus, who fulfilled this prophecy by teaching and performing miracles.

– Deuteronomy 21:22-23 describes a man hung on a pole being “under God’s curse.” Christians interpret this as a prefigurement of Jesus’ crucifixion, where he took the curse of sin upon himself.

Symbolism in Exodus

– The Passover Lamb: The sacrifice of a perfect lamb to save the Israelites from the tenth plague is seen as a symbol of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to redeem humanity from sin.

– The Wilderness Tabernacle: The requirement for blood sacrifices in the Old Testament foreshadows Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice as the “Lamb of God” who takes away the sin of the world.
