How to handle stress?

Stress

Stress

Many years ago, when I was a uni student in New Zealand, a Christian sister once told me, worrying is a sin. Today with all my Bible knowledge, thoughts, reflections and observations, this may be so if we persist in chronic worrying because if we believe there is a universal powerful, almighty and loving God, we should be able to handle all our stress in a healthy manner on a daily basis – God’s ways. Having say that, I agree with one of my christian friends who comments that it is very human and natural to worry in our stressful day to day living.

Bible verses on how to cope with stress

There are so many verses showing us that trusting in God (absolute faith in him) would ease our burdens on chronic worrying or bad stress. I have included some verses below from the Bible. I know from my past experiences, it is easier say than done; nonetheless, let us keep focusing on biblical ways to handle stress with faith, prayers and a humble and trusting heart. I have also included couple of songs below – hope they are uplifting to you.

Psalms 23:1-6 “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always.I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 6:33-34 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

What a friend we have in Jesus – take our burdens to him for He is strong
