Jeremiah Chapter 40-42, NIV

MM

Jeremiah freed by Nebuzaradan commander (601-586 BC) of the imperial guard had released him at Ramah Ch 40:1. Interesting even the commander of Babylonian imperial guard obeys God. Gedaliah appointed as the governor over the land of Israel.. assassinated by Ishmael son of Nethaniah after he ignored warning from Johanan son of Kareah.

Jonanan pursued Ishmael and he escaped and fled to Ammonites. Johanan for fear of the Babylonians plan to flee to Egypt; on the way consulted Jeremiah to petition to God on their behalf…Ch 42:1-6. Ten days later, Jeremiah came back with the answer…vs 7-22.

Ans: to stay put in the land i.e not to flee to Egypt otherwise God’s wrath will pour on them..when you go to Egypt vs 18-20. God is grieved over the disaster vs 10.

Different outcomes: stay, live, build up, restore, be protected, br shown compassion, and prosper. Go to Egypt, suffers God’s wrath. Hard to understand or reason. Hard choices and trust in Jeremiah’s prophecy or words from God.
