Ezekiel 17:1-24, NIV
MM
Parable of two eagles, the vine and its interpretation.
Characters here: king of Babylon, Judah king…force unfair treaty between king of Judah held captive and the king of Babylon..break..ask Egypt for help…despised the oath by breaking the covenant..shall not escape…comparison to the covenant with God…my oath that he despised and my covenant that he broke vs 19..will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment upon him..caught in my snare..because he is unfaithful to me…mention of ..take a shoot from the very top of a cedar and plant it; . break off a tender sprig from its topmost shoots and plant it on a high and lofty mountain…bear fruit and become a splendid cedar..Birds of every kind will nest in it…I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow..vs 24
Parable involves many characters’ roles with vines and cedar imagery…requires a separate study to bring out the full meaning.
So far my understanding: importance of honouring an oath made whether fair or unfair. Trusting in God and obedience to him for he can bring down any powerful man or country on earth and raise someone else up for his glory and sovereign purpose.
