Psalm 97-98

vs 9 …O LORD, are the Most High all over the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.

vs 10 Let those who love the LORd hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.

vs 11 Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in the heart.

Psalm 98:1-2…his right hand and his holy arm…has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,…jubilant somg with music…

Vs 9 He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity

So comforting verses. The act of worship is to praise the Almighty God for who He is.

The Prodical Son

vs 31-32…you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. Vs 32…celebrate and be glad…brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.

Acts 8

Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch

HL & TH

Philip helped to interpret the book of Isaiah 53:7-8 prophesying on Christ. He also baptised him vs 38-no wasting time.

Other thought today

Do not confine God or put God in the box. What He has revealed to us is sufficient for an abundant life…man comes alive. Leave 5% of unanswered questions to God-up to Him reveal or not to reveal.

Worthy of worship-His greatness, majesty, splendour, glory, maker of heavens, strength and glory vs 6-wow, his holiness, judge people with equity…judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth vs 10,

Luke 15

HL & TH

Jesus was criticised bt the Pharisees and the teachers of the law…this man welcomes sinners, and eats with them vs 2.

Jesus looks out for the lost sheep-priority…found it.. heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent vs 7.

Acts 8 Great persecution in early churches

Saul was actively involved; Saul is now called Paul.

…great persecution..against the church in Jerusalem…

Phillip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there….miraculous signs…many paralytics and cripples were healed…great joy in that city.

Simon had practised socery…magic.. followed Phillip around…himself believed and was baptised…vs 13.

Peter and John placed their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit vs 17. Peter admonished Simon for wanting to buy the gift of laying hands on people to receive the Holy Spirit with money vs 20…his heart is not right before God vs 21. God’s gifts cannot be bought. Peter asked Simon to repent…vs 22…see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin.

His majestry-creator, Almighty God above all gods vs3, maker-us, seas, formed land.

Do not harden your hearts or test Him vs 8.

God is slow to anger but also to subside His anger…forty years I was angry with that generation…vs10…hearts go astray…have not known my ways…oath…never enter my rest vs 11.

The Cost of being a Disciple

Costs you everything, your whole life; calculate the costs…able to complete?…subject to ridicule if unable to finish it vs 25-27, vs 33.

Calculate the chances of winning; if forsees loss, send a delegation to make peace while is still far away vs 31

Salt if loses saltiness-useless vs 34

Listen/hear what the Word teaches.

Stephen’s speech to the Sanhedrin

God, our protector and avenger for injustices-vs 1, 2, 22-23, fortress, gave us sound judgement vs 15. Our comforter…vs 11…know the thoughts of man…Blessed…the man you discipline…the man you teach from your law. Our creator…implanted the ear for a purpose…vs 9;…formed the eye not see? vs 9(b)-reminded me of what Dr Ming Wang said on sight convinced him of God marvellous creation…the human body model.

The Parable of the Great Banquet

…the Kingdom of God is like invitation to the great banquet…invited many guests…many have lots of excuses, not free to attend…the host then invites everyone he can find…only qualification is a human being…filled up the house vs 23…reminds me what Jesus said the last shall be the first…Qns: am I or are u too busy and willing to attend to building Kingdom’s activities?

Acts 6:1-15

Stephen seized..vs 5 a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit…vs 8…full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs…jealousy and gossips from opposition…produced false witnesses, who testified…sitting in the Sanhedrin…saw his face was like the face of an angel. He is the first martyr in the new testament era.

Righteous vs wicked

Psalm 92:1-14

Fate of the evildoers and the righteous…especially vs 7…evildoers ultimately .. forever destroyed even though they temporarily flourish.
Vs 12-14…the righteous will flourish like a palm tree…flourish in the courts of our God….vs 14…still bear fruit in old age…will stay fresh and green…vs 15…The LORD is upright…my Rock…no wickedness in him

Luke 14:1-14

Do good on the Sabbath day…Sabbath exists for people and not the other way round.

Vs 7-11…Be humble…take the lowest seat/place-…be honoured in the presence of all his fellow guests..vs 10.

Vs 12-14…invite those who cannot repay you…the poor, the crippled, the lame…will be blessed…God will repaid you at the resurrection of the righteous…Th: difficult to do in real life…needs His help and strength…or simply obeys and acts on it.

Why early Apostles so effective in their preaching and converts grew rapidly?

Full convicted of Christ, 100% committment and dedication, leveraging on God, Christ and Holy Spirit power and authority to do good, preached the gospel…vs 7..the word of God spread…number of disciples increased rapidly…

Comforting and rich condensed phrases vs 2-15…my refuge and my fortress;…save me from the deadly pestilence;..vs 4…covers you with his feathers;…under his wings you will find refuge;…vs 5…will not fear the terror of night…vs 10-13…no harm will befall you no disaster will come near your tent;…command his angels..guard you in all the ways…

The Narrow Door, feast, prophets and Jerusalem

Make every effort to enter through the narrow door…many will try to enter and will not able to…may be rejected…I don’t know you or where you come from….Away from me, all you evil doers…;…feast in the kingdom of God…last who will be the first…;…for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

Vs 38-39…if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men…will only yourselves fighting against God.

vs 6, fate of senseless man…fools…all evildoers flourish, they will be for ever destroyed.

vs 12-14..the righteous will flourish like a palm tree..grow like a cedar of Lebanon…still bear fruit in old age…stay fresh and green…vs 15.. The LORD is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.

vs 10 The length of our days is seventy years-or eighty, if we have the strength…their span…trouble and sorrow..

vs Teach us to number our days aright…

Doing good on Sabbath day; her infirmity due to Satan

…not her sins that lead to her infirmity…vs 16…whom Satan has kept her bound for eighteen long years…; Jesus set her free on the Sabbath day led to the indignation of the Pharisees..hypocrites vs 15..

Acts 4

Holy Spirit empowered his speech; obey God vs men-shared what they had witnessed

Vs 8-12…filled with the Spirit..answered to the Rulers and elders of the people…

Vs 13…saw the courage of Peter and John and realised that they were unschooled ordinary men..astonished….took note that these men had been with Jesus.

God speaking..vs 3-4…eternal throne…

….heavens praise your wonders , O Lord…

…talking about evidences based faith…praises of God from a fellow human being-King David.

…knowing God from this Psalm…vs 14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.

Luke 12:49-57

….brings division…?..divided, father against son…mother against daughter…

We are living in a fallen world causes this division…reminded me of the testimony given by Nabeel Qurashi..a Christian vs Muslim father and mother. etc

…reconciled fast with the adversary on the way before get thrown into a prison vs 57.

Acts 3:11-25

TH:

Peter testified Christ vs 12-16…killed..raised vs 15…must remain in heaven vs 21…time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised

Mystery qns: once human beings are restored, does that mean no more choices…no guarantee that there would not be any rebellion in heaven? Cross one bridge at a time…leave it to the Almighty and Sovereign God.
