Worries

Do Not Worry

25. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

26. Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

27. Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

28. “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.

29. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

30. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe youyou of little faith?

31. So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’

32. For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

34. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Obedience-Balaam and his donkey vs Balak (King of Moab)

Numbers Chapter 22-23

Th:

Obedience to God is more important than obedient to the earthly King and his rewards.

Truth is simple but difficult to practise. Do not over complicate matters.

With God, nothing is impossible, even He can make a donkey talks Numbers 22:28.

Whom God blesses, no one can put a curse on them Numbers 22:12. Be on the blessed side of God.

When God opens one’s eyes, able to see things of the spiritual world never seen before Numbers 22:31.

Mark 16:15-19

Jesus’s last words before taken up into heaven.

..preach the good news to all creation vs 15…sat on the right hand of God vs 19.

3 John 1:11

Imitate good…Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Rebellion against God-losers

Numbers 14:1-35

Th: God’s love, faithfulness, goodness, patience, mercy, justice and Moses intercession all shown in this chapter. Miracles displayed in Egypt do not equate to long term FAITH in God.

Make me think of our journey on earth to the promised land of new heavens and new earth.

Choice: be thankful and on the side of God or rebel against Him and face death (physical and spiritual) as a consequence. If God is for us, who can be against us. Not happy, ask or plea God with respect like the examples of no meat in the desert. Ask, plea God with due respect not rebel against Him.

the very thing I heard you say:

29. In this wilderness your bodies will fallevery one of you twenty years old or more who was counted in the census and who has grumbled against me.

30. Not one of you will enter the land I swore with uplifted hand to make your home, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

31. As for your children that you said would be taken as plunder, I will bring them in to enjoy the land you have rejected.

32. But as for you, your bodies will fall in this wilderness.

33. Your children will be shepherds here for forty years, suffering for your unfaithfulness, until the last of your bodies lies in the wilderness.

34. For forty years one year for each of the forty days you explored the landyou will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’

35. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this whole wicked community, which has banded together against me. They will meet their end in this wilderness; here they will die.”

For us or against us

Mark 9:38-41-all extracts from NIV

Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us

38. “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”

39. “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me,

40. for whoever is not against us is for us.

41. Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.

vs 40 is the emphasis. Let not fight among ourselves; let God be the judge.

Faith and deeds

Reflection: Faith and deeds go together. Faith without work is dead-see below. Just like body without a spirit is dead. So many so-called Christians are guilty of this.

James 2:14-22

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless. 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Reflection:This remind me of what Jesus said about feeding the hungry, visit the sick and lonely in:

Matthew 25:35-46

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Single-minded and do not doubt

James 1:5-8

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
