Zechariah 7:1-13, NIV

Obs & Hg:

The Lord’s heart vs 3-10.

3. by asking the priests of the house of the LORD Almighty and the prophets, “Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?”

4. Then the word of the LORD Almighty came to me:

5. “Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted? God searches the motive behind every act of men.

6. And when you were eating and drinking, were you not just feasting for yourselves?

7. Are these not the words the LORD proclaimed through the earlier prophets when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were at rest and prosperous, and the Negev and the western foothills were settled?'”

Disobedience Resulted in Captivity

8. And the word of the LORD came again to Zechariah:

9. “This is what the LORD Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

10. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.’

Importance of listening to God

Consequences of not listening and disobedience: scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations. strangers. land was left desolate…vs 14

13. “‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,’ says the LORD Almighty.

Benefits: Love Christ. Receive Christ’s forgiveness.Get to be with the trinity in the heavens and enjoy heavenly joy, peace; invite to the heavenly banquet and stay in heavenly mansion; praising God’s goodness etc.

Th: Jesus so laser focus in his mission on earth. Gave up his glory and riches in heaven for us.

Four chariots represents four spirits of heaven, going out from standing in the presence of the Lord of the whole world..vs 5

.take silver and gold from….crown for Joshua…set it on the head of the high priest, son of the Jehozadak….the Branch..it is he who will build the temple of the LORD…will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne vs 13

Revelation 20:11-15, NIV

Hgs: great white throne and him who was seared on it….the dead, great and small standing beforecthe throne, and books were opened. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it…the Hades gave up the dead…If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire (second death) vs 15.

Th: this us very serious stuff-judgment in heaven. Goal is to make is to make sure your name is in the book of life.

Luke 9:46-50, NiV

…little child…welcomes this little child welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me …..For he who is least among you all-he is the greatest vs 46.

. drive out demons..not one of us….’Do not stop him,”, Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you,” vs 49-50. Also refer to Phil:15-18.

The Flying Scroll

Flying scroll..symbol again…represents wickedness over the land vs 6…..in the basket sat a woman…wickedness…..will send it out, and it will enter the house of him who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in his house and destroy it, both its timbers and its stones.'” vs 4.

…measuring basket..in the basket..iniquity of the people throughout the land……sat a woman…. va 6…two women, with the wind in their wings…like those of a stork…to the country of Babylonia to build a house for it vs 11.

..angel…Zechariah…vision of the Gold Lampstand and the Two Olive Trees…bowl at the top of the Lampstand and the seven lights on it, with seven channels to the lights….eyes of the LORD, which range throughout the earth…two olives trees are the two anointed to serve the LORD of all the earth vs 13; …these symbols require a separate study.

Mention of the LORD’s message to Zerubbabel (governor of Judaea..rebulding of the Temple of Jerusalem..

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty vs 6.

Hgs: n..A spirit seizes him and he suddenly screams…convulsions..foams at the mouth…..his disciples could not drive out this spirit.

“O unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied..But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy…vs 41.

Th: unbelief and perverseness and authority…barrier to healing.

Jesus prophesized himself…the Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.” vs 44.

Satan’s Doom

When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison..go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth-Gog and Magog…surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them…devil who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulphur where the beast and thecfalse prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

Clean Garments for the High Priest

Hgs:.,,showed me Joshua he high priest stading before the angel ofthe LORD…Th: heavenly assembly…”Take off his filthy clothes.. represents taking away of sins..

1. Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.

2. The LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

3. Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel.

4. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.”

5. Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the LORD stood by.

A Man With a Measuring Line

Zecariah 1:1-20, NIV

Background

During the second year od Darius (persian king-522 BC-486 BCE).

The word of God came to Zecariah, the prophet via a vision.

‘Return to me, declares the LORD Almighty, ‘and I will return to you’, says the LORD.-vs 3.

‘Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices …”Then they repented and ssid The LORD Almihghy has done to us what our ways and practices deserve, just as he determined to do.’-vs 6.

Interpretation of Zecariah’s dream vs 8-20.

Luke 9:18-27, NiV

Peter through the Holy Spirit’s inspiration revealed who Jesus is vs 20.

Jesus predicted his suffering, death and resurrection vs 21.

The cost of following Christ vs 23-26….deny himself and follow him.

Hg: What good is it for the man to gain the whole world and yet lose or forfeit his very self? vs 26.

Warning:....anyone ashamed of me and my words…the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his hlory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels vs 26.

Ah LORD God..

Revelation 20:1-6, NIV

Hg: Christ will rule the earth for a thousand years with his saints that were beheaded (first resurrection)…the rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.)

Angel has the key to the Abyss……seizedvthe dragon, that ancient serpent…Satan is bound for a thousand years…after that free for a short time…mystery and logic of this…
