Righteous anger and violence-Jesus Clears the Temple

John 2:12-25

There is a limit to everything including patience and tolerance…vs 14-16. Jesus showed his courage and righteous anger.

14. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.

15. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.

16. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”

  • Warning against enticement and rejecting wisdom
  • vs 29-31
  • 29. since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD.
  • 30. Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke,
  • 31. they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.
  • 33. but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

God protected Paul and the crew…the angel of God …stood beside me…must stand trial before Caesar….graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you vs 23-26.

23. Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me

24. and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’

Proverbs 1:19

Learn wisdom from the proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel.

King Solomon got his wisdom from God…his prayer to God for wisdom-1 Kings 3:9-14. He asked well (think of others) that pleased God and he got rewarded far more than he asked for.

Outcomes: wisdom, insights, prudence, knowledge and discretion, disciplined and prudent life…doing what is right and just and fair…

…let the wise listen and add to their learning…

vs 7 The fear of the LORD…

7. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
