Note: the Lamb…sin…surpassed me…the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove….baptise with the Holy Spirit.

Initiation by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit…water and fire in that sequence.

29. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

30. This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’

Paul told his past to King Agrippa…lived as a Pharisee…great testimony of his past and his conversion…King Agrippa was disturbed over his testimony vs 24.

Herod Agrippa I (born c. 10 bce—died 44 ce) was the king of Judaea (41–44 ce), a clever diplomat who through his friendship with the Roman imperial family obtained the kingdom of his grandfather, Herod I the Great. He displayed great acumen in conciliating the Romans and Jews. 23 July 2024

Born of God

John 1:1-18

….the world did not recognise him….his own did not receive him.

12. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

13. children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

…the Word became flesh vs 14

…came from the Father, full of grace and truth vs 14

…law was given through Moses: grace and truth came through Jesus Christ vs 17.

18. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

In another word, Jesus reveals to us what God is like, His heart, His perspective becos Jesus was and is with Him from the beginning of the world.

Psalm 148

Every living beings and even objects (vs 4) praise God for aHis greatness and splendour. In another words, all His creation should praise Him…his name alone is exalted; his splendour is above the earth and the heavens vs 13.

Psalm 149-how to praise Him

Sing to the LORD a new song…rejoice in their Maker…praise his name with dancing…make music to him with tambourine and harp….the LORD takes delight in his people…he crowns the humble with salvation

The Word was with God

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God, and the Word was God…

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2. He was with God in the beginning.

3. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

5. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Paul defended himself Acts 24:10-21. The Jews persecuted him.

Paul suffered in spreading the gospels.

Jesus explained himself to two on the road to Emmaus

vs 25-27…foolish and slow of heart to believe…prophecies Fulfilment.

25. He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

26. Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”

27. And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
